Art First Arte Primero is a fine art studio for children. Our main goal is to create a world filled with cultural understanding through art and language and to empower children by nurturing their creativity, confidence, problem-solving skills, and non-verbal communication skills through their expression in VISUAL ARTS, MUSIC, DANCE and THEATER! We offer a loving, artistic environment where your children will learn Spanish through play.

AT A GLANCE

  • 11-week summer program beginning June 7, 2021

  • Children entering kindergarten through 6th grade welcome

  • Each week has an exciting theme for the children to explore. – We will do fine arts, learn Spanish and venture out on field trips and explore.

  • 8:00am – 5:30pm daily

  • Drop-off & pick-up at Art First Studio 

  • 1549 S. 1100 E. SLC UT 84105​​​​

  • Tuition is $230/week or $55/day a la carte

  • Summer camp registration fee is $50. Art Kit is $99. Covid Fee is $65.

  • Registration fee & tuition, covid & art kit fee  are non-refundable. 

  • Arte Primero is NOT a nut/dairy free facility

Emphasis on planets especially Mars, solar system, NASA & extraterrestrial life!

Blast off! Explore our amazing universe through art! We will artistically explore the gigantic canyons on Mars! After nearly 300 million miles, NASA’s Perseverance rover completes its journey to Mars. We will explore the red planet and the magnificent photographs from NASA! Mars Mission: Perseverance chute had Teddy Roosevelt quote “Dare mighty things” spelled out in binary code. Children love space art and creating in polymer clay!

Picasso & Dali are whimsical artists that kids naturally LOVE! paintings are whimsical and have a natural childlike allure. 

We will learn about the artists’ lives, inspiration and culture. What did they paint? What was their inspiration? Children will create their own inspired 

 

Picasso & Dali art! At the tender young age of 9, Picasso completed his first painting: “El Picador”, a man riding a horse in a bullfight. Picasso believed that “every child is born an artist,” and at Arte Primero, we do too! This week of camp will be dedicated towards learning and creating everything PICASSO & DALI! Whimsical, magical…kids to see their world through the eyes of an artist!

ARTISTS: HAYAO MIYAZAKI & TAKASHI MURAKAMI 

MUSIC: Composer, Tania León-Cuba

Children will learn about Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese animator, director, producer, screenwriter, author, and manga artist. We will discover his animation through drawing and discovering his films. Takashi Murakami is a Japanese contemporary artist. 2 incredible current artists that have contributed greatly to pop art and animation! Children will create their own characters and pop art animation! Children are mesmerized by animation films & pop art!

Theme: An homage to African American artists

Artists: Alma Thomas, Romare Bearden & Amy Sherlad.

MUSIC: Composer, Unsuk Chin – South Korea

A phenomenal week of exceptional artists! Children will explore the lives and artistic styles of Alma Thomas, Romare Bearden & Amy Sherlad. This week we will learn how to use color, form, shapes, texture to express their feelings. A message each child wants to share with the world around them. Children love to share the art they feel inside!

Alma Thomas was an art teacher in the public schools of Washington, D.C.

Romare Bearden is best known for his photomontage compositions made from torn images of popular magazines and assembled into visually powerful statements on African American life.

Amy Sherald is best known for her figurative paintings of vibrantly dressed individuals like Michelle Obama.

“I’m painting the paintings that I want to see in museums,” Amy Sherald.

THEME: INK ART

ARTISTS: JOSE GUADALUPE POSADA, SARAH MAYCOC

MUSIC: Composers: Cacilda Borges Barbosa-Brazilian Frédéric François Chopin

Ink drawing has various tools, a pen, lithography, and block printing. Children will explore various techniques and the wonders of ink. What happens when you blow air on ink on paper? Magical streams of color appear, and children will love the visual effects. Children love this new way of creating art! We will study the history of lithography with Jose Guadalupe Posada and more contemporary artists like UK based Sarah Maycoc.

Tuition: The week of  June 29th is $230 or pick a la carte days at $55/day

There is a magical world of storytelling in a child’s mind. At Arte Primero we strive to nurture children’s creativity and foster their abilities to create art. How do you tell a story in a small square? Children will write a vignette of a story and transfer to an artistic representation of their imagination. The boxes your child creates will be treasured for years to come! Children love to write their own characters and stories!

THEME: POP ART HEROES

ARTISTS: YAYOI KUSAMA & ASHLEY LONGSHORE

MUSIC: Composers: Lindsey Stirling, Johann Pachelbel

 

Children will learn about Yayoi Kusama an international phenomenon with her repetitive polka dots. Ashley Longshore is a Louisiana-based painter and focuses on American pop culture. Children will explore their heroes and transform them into pop art. What is an Art Movement? Pop art celebrates everyday life, elevating popular culture to the level of fine art. OUR CHILDREN ARE ART! Created in their own AWESOMNESS! We will study artists like Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol and Ashley Longshore. This is a favorite week for kids, a fun time to explore!

THEME: BUGS & BUTTERFLIES OF THE AMAZON

MUSIC: Composers: Eduardo Angulo-Mexico

The Amazon is the most remarkable natural resources of our planet, home to the world’s largest tropical rainforest and at least 10% of its known biodiversity. The Amazon is full of amazing facts that children love to explore. There are around 30 million species. Scientists once found 700 different species of beetle on just one tree! Children will learn about the Bullet Ant, Jewel Caterpillar, Jumping Stick, Glasswing Butterfly, Longhorn Beetle and so much more to discover! Our little artists will learn amazing facts and explore the artistic science behind the bugs and butterflies of the Amazon! We will learn the importance of taking care of our ecosphere, nature and loving our planet and animals! Children will come home with beautiful Amazonian art!

THEME: MOSAIC ART

Composers: Lisa Washington Calvo

 

This is a magical week filled with textures and colors! Children will learn the history of mosaic art. Mosaic is an ancient art form that uses small pieces to create beautiful images.  It dates back to Mesopotamia, close to 4000 years ago. Each child will create their own designs and sort their own materials. We will use various techniques and materials: card stock, beans, legumes, coffee beans and more. Children love to use different everyday materials to create art!

THEME: SPACE & THE GALAXY!

Emphasis on nebula, moon, comets and northern lights!

There is so much to learn and explore in the Solar System! Jupiter, Saturn and its rings, the swirling cloud stripes of Jupiter, the solar system, black holes, galaxies, stars and designing your own futuristic spaceships!  Our little artists will create their own Extra-Terrestrial characters! We will work with mixed media, clay and splatter painting! What will their galaxy look like? The amazing colors and textures of the nebula, moon, comets and the aurora borealis are full of artistic adventure! Children will visualize their own planets and create their own galaxy. Children will learn various painting techniques and how to enhance their art with mix media. These techniques can be used in other art weeks and art skills to be used for years to come!
