ART FIRST ARTE PRIMERO creates a place where imagination is inspired!

Our main goal is to create a world filled with cultural understanding through art and language and to empower children by nurturing their creativity, confidence, problem-solving skills, and non-verbal communication skills through their expression in VISUAL ARTS, MUSIC, DANCE and THEATER! We offer a loving, artistic environment where your children will learn Spanish through play.

2020 Summer Camp Weekly Details

ART FIRST SUMMER CAMP AT A GLANCE

  • 12-week summer program beginning June 1st 2020

  • Children entering kindergarten through 6th grade welcome

  • Each week has an exciting theme for the children to explore. – We will do fine arts, learn Spanish and venture out on field trips and explore various cultures.

  • 8:00am – 5:30pm daily

  • Drop-off & pick-up at Art First Studio

  • Tuition is $230/week or $55/day a la carte

  • Summer camp registration fee is $50

  • Registration fee & tuition are non-refundable. 

  • Arte Primero is NOT a nut/dairy free facility

 

WEEK 1 — VINCENT VAN GOGH

June 1st – 5th

Welcome to the world of Van Gogh! Cobalt blue, golden sunflowers and swirling skies!

 

Children will learn about Van Gogh, his life, his art and his passion to discover nature through his eyes! How will your child see nature and art after this week at Arte Primero? The first week of summer camp will be FUN and fanciful!

WEEK 2 — SPACE, PLANETS & ASTRONAUTS

 

June 8th – 12th

Emphasis on planets, solar system, spaceships & extraterrestrial life!
Blast off! Explore our amazing universe through art! We will artistically explore the gigantic canyons on Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and its rings, the swirling cloud stripes of Jupiter, the solar system, black holes, galaxies, stars and designing your own futuristic spaceships!

Our little artists will create their own Extra-Terrestrial characters and learn how to draw Star Wars characters too! We will work with mixed media, clay and splatter painting! What will their galaxy look like? Dive into your own galaxy!

WEEK 3 — GREAT MASTERS: FRIDA & DIEGO, LEONARDO DA VINCI

June 15th – 19th

The relationship between Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera was full of colorful art!

 

This duo painted each other for 25 years. We will discuss with our little artists how the art we create influences and inspires other people. We will explore how art moves people. They will learn about the muralist movement and how artists like Frida and Diego changed the world even to this day. How does art change in our world? How can we make our community, our world better through art?

We take a look at Kahlo's ‘Frida and Diego Rivera’ (1931) and ‘Diego on My Mind’ (1943) paintings to get an insight into their unique artistic partnership. Who is your bestie? We will also discuss the qualities of a good friendship and how good relationships make our community thrive!

WEEK 4 — ART DESIGN: INDIE MAVERICK AND MILLO

June 22nd – 26th

Artists’ designs are everywhere and we are visually stimulated every day by fabulous artistic ideas!

 

Children will explore art in media, public art, film and fashion. Can you taste, feel, touch, smell ART? This week we will learn how to use color, form, shapes, texture and various subjects by using black and white with pops of color.

 

Children will create their own hat or t-shirt!

 

We will study 2 major artists: Italian artist Francesco Camillo Giorgino, known as Millo, paints large-scale murals that feature friendly inhabitants exploring their urban setting. Our little artists are friendly inhabitants EXPLORING own art! Children will create art in the “Millo” style. We will create art studying Indie Maeverick and her beautiful black and white depiction of animals.

WEEK 5 — WHIMSICAL WORLD OF PABLO PICASSO!

June 29th – July 3rd

Children naturally love Picasso; his paintings are whimsical and have a natural child like allure.

 

At the tender young age of 9, Picasso completed his first painting: “El picador”, a man riding a horse in a bullfight. Picasso believed, “Every child is born an artist.” In Arte Primero we do too!

 

This week of camp will be dedicated towards learning and creating everything PICASSO! and guiding kids to see their world through the eyes of a phenomenal artist like Pablo Picasso!

 

Children will learn about his Blue Period, Rose Period, Cubism, Picasso’s abstract faces and more. Picasso wrote over 300 poems; we will create mixed media with kids writing their own poetry!

WEEK 6 — NATURE EXPLORER: I AM A STAR!

July 6th – 10th

Nature is the original paint box. All the colors we use can be found in the natural world and all paint pigments and inks were initially made from natural materials such as plants and the earth. How do you make color from nature? Red with Hibiscus flower, Yellow with turmeric, Orange from onion (yes, onion), Brown from Coffee. Nature has no limit! Children will see nature and its colors in a whole new way!

 

Nature also provides the light that informs how we see the world. Children will explore how light changes an artistic subject matter. How a mountain looks at sunrise, midday, the golden hour, twilight and at night…simply majestic in all phases! Light is a source of artistic inspiration through out time.

 

We will go on nature walks in the Wasatch Front to observe the natural world closely, bring treasures back to the studio to create found nature art inspired by mother earth!

WEEK 7 — WRITE YOUR OWN STORY BOOK!

July 13th – 17th

Writing is a personal jet into your imagination! Come fly with us! We will dive into your own story! Children will learn the dynamics of writing a children's book from title to their book, discovering their characters and their journey, to a triumphant ending! Children will learn about character design, story telling, drawing for a children's book and more.

 

We will read children's books and comic books and study the authors vision and techniques. Books like, Dreamers by Yuyi Morales, Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier. Each child will finish their book this week. The more days they attend the better to allow children to create their very own book.

WEEK 8 — POP ART-CREATE YOUR OWN POP WORLD:
ANDY WARHOL & YAYOI KUSAMA

July 20th – 24th

Pop Art was started in part by Andy Warhol who drew on popular objects and started an international phenomenon.

 

What is an Art Movement? Pop art celebrates everyday life, elevating popular culture to the level of fine art. OUR CHILDREN ARE ART! Created in their own AWESOMENESS!

 

Children will create a Pop Art Self Portrait! We will study artists like Andy Warhol and Yayoi Kusama. Kids will also create their own 3-D world of Polka Dots! This is a favorite week for kids, a fun time to explore!

WEEK 9 — MADRE TIERRA-MOTHER EARTH: GREAT BARRIER REEF

July 27th – July 31st

The Great Barrier Reef is a mosaic of 2,900 individual reefs off the coast of Australia. The sprawling reef can be seen from space and is not only the world's largest coral reef system but also the largest structure on Earth made by living organisms. The Great Barrier Reef stretches more than 1,600 miles a little more than the distance from Boston to Miami.

 

Our little artists will learn amazing facts and explore the artistic science behind Australia! We will learn the importance of taking care of our coral reefs, nature and loving our planet and animals! Children will come home with beautiful ocean art!

WEEK 10 — SPACE & OUR GALAXY!

August 3rd – 7th

Emphasis on nebula, moon, comets and northern lights

There is so much to learn and explore in the Solar System! The amazing colors and textures of the nebula, moon, comets and the aurora borealis are full of artistic adventure! Children will visualize planets and traveling the galaxy. Materials will be out ready for them to artistically recreate what they saw in their imagination! It will be a splendid week of art activities! One of many in this week of Space Art!

WEEK 11 — ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM: ART IS AN AGENT OF POSITIVE CHANGE!

August  10th – 14th

Brazilian-born, Romero Britto is an international artist that uses vibrant, bold and colorful patterns. Britto has created a visual language of hope and happiness. Self-taught at an early age, Britto painted on scraps of paper or cardboard or any medium he could find before coming into his own and traveling to Paris where he was introduced to the works of Matisse and Picasso.

A believer in the role of an artist as an agent of positive change, Romero Britto is committed to developing and supporting the role art will continue to play in world issues.

WEEK 12 — MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE: ART IS HAPPINESS!

 

August  17th – 21st

August 24th

Everyday clutter is art…if it assembled in a creative fashion. (All items needed for art projects will be provided for children but if you choose to collect items for this week to make it more personal, it may include photos, letter, postcards, found small objects etc. Art will be created/mounted on masonite board.) Due to Covid-19, any items brought from home need to be sanitized.

Children will create art from newspapers, magazines, old books and repurpose them in art! We will use found objects from hikes, postcards from trips, old letters; materials of various colors and textures, stamps, fabric, pastels, paint, yarn, any small objects. Children will also create an art box from an old book, a fun way to reduce, reuse and recycle!

This is our last week of camp and sure to be FUN and creative exploring what treasures we can repurpose for ART!
