Creating Watercolors with Dry Pigment

Workshop: Friday April 22, 2016 6:00-7:30 pm

Adults & Children welcome


Working with the dry pigments, this class will make their own watercolors. Using earth tones students will make a unique watercolor art piece, drawing inspiration from Utah’s wonderful landscapes.

This class uses the periodic chart to demonstrate the origin of many of the iron based pigments.

This class is designed to teach students watercolor painting techniques. There will be a detailed discussion of watercolor materials (brushes, paper, pigments) and an explanation, with demonstrations, of the various traditional watercolor techniques, such as working on dry paper and wet paper, basic washes, various ways to use the brush effectively, pigments and water, line and textures in watercolor, preserving some white of the paper, and making corrections. Also covered will be the color wheel, mixing color from the color wheel, and achieving rich color in watercolor.

Gain the confidence to be a painter! From the beginner to the experienced student, this class in acrylics will guide and teach students how to approach the painting process with confidence, while exploring the basics of composition and color. Students may work from life and/or photos. Instructor demonstrations and individual attention is provided.
